In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, all the flimsy tools you have access to at the start of the game do not inspire confidence, so it’s natural to be suspicious of the Vaulting Pole and the Ladder when you first get them.

Both are very important in the game, as the Vaulting Pole allows you to cross rivers, and the Ladder allows you to scale cliffs. You can’t get past either obstacle without them, so it is perfectly fine to be a bit paranoid about them breaking, and then getting stranded.

The good news is that neither of these tools can break, so you can travel with confidence and know that you can always make your way back home again. Just remember to always have them in your Pocket, so that you can quickly get around the island.

You should also make sure to grab the Tool Ring as early as you can, as it will make life much smoother for you as you explore, harvest resources, and catch bugs.
