I'm 42, and pretty skinny overall except a little fat right at the waistline. I feel like I've done everything except all the weird miracle cure and fad stuff. Have any guys really gotten rid of that fat part? HOW?

What’s your diet like, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 13, 2018 4:25 PM |
Well, I do eat a lot of processed foods and a PB&J sandwich every day. Other than that, decent.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 13, 2018 4:26 PM |
Sleep in a cool room.
Deal with stress and anxiety (they control cortisol which deposits fat around the belly).
Avoid sugar, potatoes and fats.

Everyone needs a little body fat, it gives you some strength & reserves for fighting off illnesses, don't you see all theses skinny bitches in the news dying from the flu?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 13, 2018 4:30 PM |
Better put: How do I move the fat from my belly to my ass.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 13, 2018 4:32 PM |
Enjoy being 42 while you can, OP. When you get into your 50s, you start collecting fat underneath the stomach muscles that's almost impossible to get rid of. You know those guys with the huge guts that say "this is muscle! ?"
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 8 | January 13, 2018 4:37 PM |
It's carbs, sugar, stress and not walking.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 13, 2018 4:39 PM |
How is your posture? You'll be amazed at how much flatter the belly gets when the erector spinae and core muscles are properly toned.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 13, 2018 4:39 PM |
I had lipo around the belly area and the flanks. If I gain weight now, it comes back under the muscle just like R8 was saying about age & weight gain. The love handles aren't even 100% gone because I had very thick skin and he didn't take all the fat out because he said that risks the skin hanging down & needing the skin cut out.
If you really have a very uneven distribution of body fat and are thin & there's no way to get rid of certain areas (like man boobs - similar problem) - lipo is truly the only way it will go away. It's genes that control where you store fat - not your diet or exercise routine. People who have a flat ass or big fat round ass, naturally, are like this thanks to genes - not their diet or exercise routines.
The last person who talked to me about it said he spent 15 years in the gym and dieting trying to fix this area and it was gone in an hour in surgery. I never doubted it again.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 13, 2018 4:56 PM |
OP as you get older gravity will take its toll and you will get wider in the middle, not necessarily fatter as you weight won't change much. It's called middle age spread.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 13, 2018 4:59 PM |
Reading your post I thought it was something that I posted previously that got bumped. I cut out all sugar/soda and tried to eat as many vegetables/fruits and chicken/fish as possible. I also did 15 minutes of planking (total) a day and that is the only thing that got rid of it, but I slacked and now it's back.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 13, 2018 5:13 PM |
Another lipo story. I ended a 25 year relationship and realized I had really let myself go during that period, especially the last few years when things weren't going well. Spent a year or so dieting and hitting the gym 3-4 times a week. Terrific results but I couldn't get rid if the band of fat around my waistline. Another problem area was my thick thighs that caused jeans to wear out in the area below the crotch.
Took the lipo plunge. Got rid of the love handles and the belly fat. He took fat from the inside thigh area and fat from under my chin. It's been 15 years and the fat has not returned. I still work out religiously and moved from the typical midwestern diet of meat and potatoes to a lot of grilled fish, chicken and veggies. I hate raw greens and avoid salads. I still eat out about 5 nights a week and enjoy a cocktail or two every evening.
The whole process was good for me emotionally and physically, and helped me get relaunched after the breakup.

R15 u enjoy a cock or two every evening? Lucky!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 13, 2018 5:16 PM |
That's insipirational, R15. How much did the Lipo cost? Did it hurt?
As you say, that's only part of the answer, but curious.

Real men melt that belly fat off with a biggo blowtorch.

Lipo & lap band surgery worked wonders for me!
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 19 | January 13, 2018 5:44 PM |
R15 - didn't the thighs hurt? I heard that's the most sensitive area.
Well I know you asked r15 but until he replies, mine was 8000 for lower abs, lower back fat, upper back fat, side of chest, front of chest. This was with general anesthesia and it took almost 4 hours. Recovery was a few weeks, and it was pretty painful unlike what a lot of people say. I don't like opiates but I had to take them or I couldn't even walk.
Leading up to that, it took me a long time to find the right doctor. Some were cheaper, and some were more expensive, but the key is too see their work on other *male* patients (90% of pics are women). Men have more dense fat and thicker skin, so the surgery is not the same as female lipo. His work on my chest area was the best part of the whole thing & I didn't even go in for that as the motivating factor (the back fat / love handles was the worst). But the chest looks a million times better in t-shirts now. I didn't exactly have man boobs, but he did the chest because I didn't want the fat to come back disproportionately to that area if I gained weight - and he had a good reputation for gynecomastia reduction anyway, which he charges a lot for in isolation Since this wasn't a gyno case (no cutting out breast tissue) - it was just added in as lipo & not as expensive.
The one mistake I made was not doing upper abs. It looks a little weird sometimes because there's basically a line where he stopped. Nobody else really notices because they don't know what my body looked like before, but it's just weird to me. I'm surprised he never mentioned it to me pre-op, but when I brought it up later he just said he didn't see the problem because it was all flat to his eyes. (It is hard to explain.)
And as r19 points out you can ALWAYS gain it back. It will just go to different areas since the fat cells are gone.

R17, all in it was around $15,000. It was done in a surgical center and under general anesthesia, which cost as much as the surgeon's fees. No resulting pain that couldn't be controlled by regular Tylenol. Went home in a compression garment and had to sleep semi-upright in a recliner the first few nights. The wounds leak during recovery and require the dressings to be changed a few times a day. I was back at work in under a week. The incisions totally healed within a few months (they were all under my clothes so it didn't matter). The small incision under my chin was so small it was never really visible. It takes a couple of months before swelling goes away and the results become evident.
I researched the hell out of this before doing it. I live in a major city where there are lots of plastic surgeons and it was easy finding reviews and comments about other people's experiences and results. I interviewed three before settling on one. I went back to the same guy a few years later to have upper eyelids reduced. The heavy lids, which run in my family, always made me look tired or sad. The change was very subtle but I was quite happy with the results.

My father and grandfather were both underweight all their lives and walked miles every day and still got the spare tire after 40. I'm a little overweight so my spare tire fits in with the rest of me. I really don't care. I try to move and eat healthy for my heart but I still indulge in my favorites a few times a month. I'm not going to give that up as long as I get good reports from my doctors. When I have to I will. I don't think an extra 12 pounds will kill me. If it does money is too tight for me to really enjoy life anyway. Fuck it.

Started a keto diet, which definitely helps get rid of belly fat
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 13, 2018 6:27 PM |
I know a woman who died from causes related to liposuction so I'm scared of it.
The natural way to get all the unwanted fat off your body is to adopt a "whole food plant-based" diet excluding all oil, refined sugar and salt. That means no animal products whatsoever (meat, eggs, dairy, fish) or any refined carbs (white pasta, flour, etc). Carbs like potatoes, corn, whole grains, beans and legumes and fruits and vegetables can be eaten as much as you want. People don't tend to overeat on whole natural food because it's so volumous, but has much fewer calories (and waaaay mire nutrients).
However most people don't want to give up eating rich, highly-processed food and would rather get bypass surgery, take statin drugs, get liposuction, etc.

I have a tiny little pouch of fat that doesn't go away unless I'm thin as fuck. I think I'll eventually get lipo or coolsculpting for it. It truly is genetic.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 13, 2018 6:47 PM |
R24. The diet you described worked for me. I had to get rid of the fat because Im type 2.
Went from tape measured waist of 42 inches to 34 inches.
The last time I had a 34 in waist was 1963.

General anesthesia is not a good thing for one's body (it can seriously screw up one's thyroid), so I would never waste it on something like a cosmetic procedure.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 13, 2018 10:01 PM |
OP, at your age, you’ll probably just have to get lipo.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 13, 2018 10:18 PM |
Is it possible to find a doctor who’ll do the lap band on someone who is only 40-50 lbs overweight?

A little bit around the waist if you are mostly in shape at middle age is fairly normal, I think

[quote] [R24], that diet gives me GAS. I'd rather have the belly fat.
The gas goes away once you're acclimated to the diet. Your weight will drop and energy will rise, immunity improves and depression lifts. But granted, it takes adjustments to your taste if you've been eating rich, fatty animal and processed foods your whole life. Most people would rather not give up those pleasures and say "oh that way of eating gave me gas" (but the person didn't stick with it long enough) or it's just "vegan propaganda" or they only care about weight loss so they'll do some unhealthy Atkins (aka "low carb") diet that can't be sustained for the long term. Or, they'll undergo anesthesia for liposuction or a bypass. Nothing extreme about that!

I want general anesthesia every night and over the whole winter!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 14, 2018 3:27 PM |
When they suck out your belly fat, have them put it in your ass like Kim Kardashian. You'll get a nice round 18 year old perky butt, and then if you gain the fat back, it just makes your ass grow bigger.
Then let us know how it goes with before and after pics.

Coolsculpting combined with Vanquish Me
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 37 | January 14, 2018 3:33 PM |
Coolsculpting takes multiple rounds and can cause nerve pain. It's unreliable as well. If you have dense, fibrous fat, it can't dissolve it as easily. Yoyo dieters have more dense fat and men have more dense fat, naturally.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 14, 2018 3:35 PM |
What about Yo-Yo Ma? Does he have dense belly fat?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 14, 2018 3:37 PM |
Yes. Lower carb meals/snacks + a little exercise.
If it's definition you're looking for, more exercise, especially weights.
If the fat goes away but the skin doesn't, look into cosmetic procedures.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 14, 2018 3:45 PM |
"[...]Atkins (aka "low carb") diet that can't be sustained for the long term [...]"
R34 provides us with the typical vegan bigot response.
Been on a lower carb diet for over 30 years. Highly sustainable. Great energy without caffeine or other drugs. Great labs at every annual physical since I started.

I’m 42 and I’m finally conceding to lipo. I’ve tried everything on my belly but the truth is, I’ve always had a gut. When I was 16 I was so skinny I looked ill, but I still had a little belly. I’ve never ever had a flat stomach. Same with other members of my family. We are all wide hips, big bums and bellies. No matter how skinny the rest of our bodies are.
My weight now is going on my belly entirely. So if I gained 10. Lbs, I wouldn’t fit into my trousers but the rest of me looks thin. I’ve had personal trainers and paid for experts but it won’t go.
I genuinely do think some men and women are built to gain weight around their middles. It’s simply not true about certain diets and exercises working universally. If you are built this way and gain weight in the belly, there seems to be too many fat cells in this area and you just can’t shift them. I do think a lot of people can shift belly fat with diet and exercise but a percentage of us can’t.

I wish I had the money to get lipo, heck I wish I had the money to afford all the cosmetic surgery I wanted, I'd look like an entirely different person by the time I was done.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 14, 2018 8:20 PM |
I guess I'm going to have to save up for lipo too, I'm down to 170 but I still have bulges and a gut and I would lose more weight but my face is already starting to look hard and gaunt.
